Sunshine is the best disinfectant

Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

Sunshine is good for the soul, too.  I have a cold, so I have been self-distancing–and self-distancing and self-distancing and….  It raises my spirits to have the windows open and light streaming in.

It’s all pretty scary.  I’m not gonna lie.  But there’s a songbird outside the window.  Has the bird been there all along?  I never noticed it before.

Since I’m not going out, I ordered a quantity of long-lasting food items from a delivery service that is a national company already used to the pandemic.  There’s an option, since the pandemic, to have the order left on the doorstep.  It works–though it’s sad.

I wiped down every item.  It took a while!  But now everything’s clean and I’m stocked up.  I am not a clean freak so this all is new for me.

In reality, I’m not social distancing.  I’m blogging, after all.  What I’m doing is physically distancing. We need to connect.  We only live by connecting, with all the fears and joys it can bring.  The outside is not all bad and the inside all good.  The outside is the inside, as a philosopher once said.  The sun I take in, the air I breathe, the food I eat, the words of others.  These constitute my inside.

The bird outside my window and the sun streaming in.  These make me up, especially if I blog about them and remember them.

I reject!  I resist!  Even though I am self-distancing, I resist the idea that the problem is what’s “foreign”!  The foreign is in me–and I in it.
